This project takes a look through an anthropological lense at body art around the world, observing the cultural aspect of tattooing. Body art has various traditions, meanings, and methodologies associated with it based on varying locations and cultures. In our project, we aim to explore these different meanings within the cultural context of tattooing and scarification.

We have chosen to break down our topic by location, focusing on the six major regions where tattooing is prominent or has a unique history. We have dedicated our exhibits to the historical and cultural details of body art in the following six regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, and the Pacific Islands. To view each region click the pictures above or the links at the top of the page.
