Text analysis is perhaps the most challenging component of the final project, from locating accessible data to working with algorithms for word frequencies and associations. For DH101, students are required to be familiar with its methodological principles, as covered in the Concepts & Readings section, and are expected to perform only basic level text analysis.
For example, a student from previous DH101 compiled a set of syllabi for a topic, and analyzed the frequency of primary texts assigned for those courses.
As an introduction, the primary emphasis is on the student’s understanding of the process, which may or may not result in brand new insights of a text under consideration.
